Narrative:
Originally built as a private residence by Henry Crawford, this elegant two-story brick home was on private land adjacent to the southwest corner of the college property. The house was owned by the fraternity until the college assumed ownership of all fraternity properties in the late twentieth century. A dormitory wing has been added and remodeled over the years, and changes have been made to the interior and to the exterior entrance, but overall the building retains the features and appearance that reflected the status of the original owner.

Crawford was a very early settler in Crawfordsville and an important downtown merchant, as well as a staunch supporter of the college. His second wife, Lydia Marshall, was a relative by marriage of Caleb Mills. By maintaining his home and making it an integral part of the campus, Wabash continues the close historical ties shared by town and college.
