Narrative: The Hodson Dining Commons was designed and built in the early 1970's to provide a lodge-like feel for the dining experience of the Taylor University students. Built into a naturally descending landscape, this facility provides wonderful views of the open area leading to the campus lake. Designed to facilitate small group discussions, the multi-tiered, sectioned floor design allows diners to feel like they are in a small area even though the facility serves up to 1,800 each year. This facility is the center piece of social experiences for Taylor students, due to otherwise limited opportunities for informal social interaction on campus. This facility also serves the summer conference program in a significant way. A major renovation in 1998 allowed for expansion of services to outside groups providing a meaningful impact on our local community.
