Narrative:
The Oakwood Sanitarium was completed in 1909 and became the first medical facility for African-Americans in Northern Alabama. Located in Huntsville, it served the students as a clinic and was a teaching facility for the training of nurses. It was from this medical facility that Oakwood's first graduates came. This class of five graduates holds a major spot in the history of Oakwood College.
